Nel 1980 il regista Steven Spielberg propone il soggetto de I predatori dell’arca perduta a John Williams, che all’epoca era il suo compositore feticcio nonchè l’autore di temi musicali divenuti cult come Lo squalo, Star Wars e Superman,

Per I predatori di Spielberg, Williams come nei citati Superman e Star Wars utilizza una marcetta che negli anni  è divenuta icona musicale e cinematografica, nonchè emblema di uno stile avventuroso e di un personaggio che hanno segnato un’epoca.
