Scritto, diretto e prodotto dal premio Oscar® Angelina Jolie Pitt, By the Sea è il nuovo lavoro della regista dell’epico film Unbroken, della Universal Pictures. Il film vede come protagonisti Brad Pitt e Jolie Pitt, insieme ad un cast internazionale guidato da Mélanie Laurent, Melvil Poupaud, Niels Arestrup e Richard Bohringer.
By the Sea segue la storia di uno scrittore americano di nome Roland (Pitt), che insieme a sua moglie, Vanessa (Jolie Pitt), arriva in una tranquilla e pittoresca località balneare francese nel 1970. Quando la coppia in crisi comincia a passare del tempo insieme agli altri viaggiatori, compresi i giovani sposi Lea (Laurent) e François (Poupaud), e la gente del posto, Michel (Arestrup) e Patrice (Bohringer), si rende conto di dover fare i conti con questioni irrisolte della loro vita.
